This historic 1964 photograph, depicted two laboratory technicians in the process of performing a bacteriologic culture analysis. At the time of this photograph, what is now known as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), was until 1970, then known as the Communicable Disease Center. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear additional personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety goggles, and a facemask.
