Caption:
This historic 1963 photograph depicted a lab technician, as she was performing a slide agglutination test upon serologic groupings of Salmonella spp. cultures. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian, executing such tasks, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety goggles, gloves, and a face mask. PPE, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is “specialized clothing or equipment, worn by an employee for protection against infectious materials”.
