This historic 1962 photograph depicted a technician seated in her mycobacterial laboratory, examining an unknown mycobacterial culture. At the time of this photograph, what is now known as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), was until 1970, then known as the Communicable Disease Center. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety goggles, gloves, and a facemask.
