This historic 1955 image, depicted Dr. Marguerite Candler, as she was performing an experimental analysis, while in her Communicable Disease Center’s experimental hematology laboratory, which became the Centers for Disease Control in 1970. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian, executing such tasks, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety goggles, gloves, and a facemask.
