Speaking at a town hall meeting on behalf of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), the Latin-American and Asian-American woman pictured here were in the process of educating attendees. The purpose of these meetings is to collect community concerns and share health messages about local environmental issues. At this point in the meeting, they were about to address two meeting participants during a breakout question/answer session.

Presentations such as the one being offered here by the health educator, or health assessor, are usually followed by audience participation through such question/answer breakout sessions. These sessions educate the listeners to the effects of site-specific exposures, how people are exposed, and for how long they were exposed, also referred to as the exposure dose.
