Description:This 1972 photograph revealed the morphology displayed by two colonies of Bacteroides hypermegas bacteria that had been grown on blood agar medium for 48 hours.
Members of the genus Bacteroides are anaerobic gram-negative bacteria, which are found mainly in the intestine as normal flora. However, it can be opportunistic under predisposing conditions like immunosuppression, tissue damage, malignancy, etc.
