Description:This micrograph depicts Bacteroides clostridiforme subsp. girans bacteria that had been cultured in thioglycollate broth medium for 48 hours.
Gram-negative Bacteroides spp., though commensal bacteria that normally live in the human gastrointestinal tract, these organisms can become pathogenic under circumstances such as disruption of the normal intestinal mucosa, trauma or surgery.
