This 1962 photograph depicted a 75-year-old female smallpox patient in Cardiff, Wales during an epidemic. This woman had received a primary vaccination on the day she’d been exposed to the virus. Note the dozen lesions, which were classified as vaccinial-modified variola major, that were scattered over her body.
