Caption:
This 4-year-old Cardiff, Wales smallpox patient, with what was characterized as a modified variola major rash, which resembled varicella. There was a cropping of the lesions in their distribution pattern. The patient was felt to have been inoculated, by way of a laparotomy wound, as well as possibly through having received a blood transfusion. See PHIL 10417 for another view of this child's face depicting the distribution of papules in this region.
