This 35-year-old female Cardiff, Wales smallpox patient, presented with what was characterized as a malignant variola major rash. Photographed here, in 1962, on the tenth day of post-eruption, this rash included hemorrhagic papules, but did not display vesicles. This patient died on the twelfth day post onset.
