Description:Depicted in this 2007 photograph were CDC microbiologists Ray Butler (background), and Sean Toney (foreground), in the process of verifying mycolic acid samples that are used for species identification. Mr. Toney can be seen loading the samples into the auto-sampler of a High-Performance Liquid Chromatography instrument, while Mr. Butler takes meticulous notes on a clipboard.
Both microbiologists are members of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), and are on the staff of this Center’s Mycobacteriology Lab Branch (MLB) inside the Division of TB Elimination (DTBE).
