This 2007 photograph, showed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Biologist, Damien Danavall, preparing what is known as a mastermix, that he would use in a multiplex real time PCR assay, which is able to differentiate between four, sexually transmitted organisms, known to be the cause for vaginal, and urethral discharges. A PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, produces large amounts of replicated DNA, or RNA molecular sequences. Using this process, very small amounts of these nucleic acid molecules can be analyzed.
