CDC’s presence in the online virtual world, Second Life, launched in August 2006. Dr. John Anderton designed the initial CDC space, using in-world tools, creating hyperlinks to CDC websites, including the MMWR, CDC.gov homepage, CDC podcasts and the Public Health Image Library, PHIL. Here, you see a virtual visitor to the Second Life, in-world Public Health exhibit. Dr. Anderton also designed a television studio inside the Second Life space, in order to be able to stream video in and out of this virtual world, which could be used to facilitate training for Second Life participants.
