Description:This local Red Cross team is disinfecting a body bag of an Ebola patient in Kikwit, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 1995.

Ebola’s natural reservoir is unknown, and the manner in which the virus first appears in a human at the start of an outbreak has not been determined, but researchers believe that the first patient becomes infected through contact with an infected animal.
