Description:Magnified 1000x, this Giemsa-stained photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by an immature Plasmodium vivax schizont.

Plasmodium vivax schizonts are enlarged 1.5x to 2x, and may be distorted, containing fine, but large Schüffner's dots that may almost fill the host RBC. When mature, they contain 12 - 24 merozoites, are yellowish-brown with coalesced pigment.
