This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a close view of a dermatology patient’s skin, in the region of the lower back, revealing the presence of a round, symmetrical, darkly pigmented lesion, that was determined to be a case of a benign lentiginous junctional nevus, in which case the melanocytes, or pigment cells, were predominantly located at the dermoepidermal junction.
